Winter 2001

Castlefield Challenge a success

The Castlefield Challenge, the major funder of SKIDZ to date, ends in March 2002.

As reported in the Bucks Free Press, in the 5 years of the Challengešs existence Castlefield has gone from being the highest crime area in High Wycombe to the lowest. SKIDZ has been acknowledged as being an important part of the reason for this dramatic change.

With the end of the Challenge also comes the end of the SRB funding. New funding is being negotiated but any help in securing alternative sources will be gratefully accepted.

City & Guilds accredited courses

This term has seen the start of the first NVQ course we are running in partnership with Haydon Training. More courses will start as students enroll.

During the Summer term 10 of our students achieved success in City & Guilds motorcycle courses and one of our instructors, Gordon White, passed his C & G teacher training course.

Wycombe Business Excellence Awards

SKIDZ was voted a finalist in the Performance through People category. This award was for organisations that were seen to be providing high standards of support and training for their staff.

Summer Holiday Courses

This year SKIDZ was able to provide more than double the number of courses during the summer holidays than last year.

Many of these additional courses were possible due to funding from the Connexions service. Young people from the Youth Service, church groups and community groups had the opportunity to experience some of what we could offer and many have joined courses this term.

These figures show what can be achieved when funding is available. We are already receiving enquiries about activities for summer 2002 and if sufficient funding can be secured there is no reason why we cannot provide even more opportunities next year.

Additional premises

The new premises are being slowly fitted out to our requirements but the benefits are already showing. With the motorbikes, quads and go-karts now out of the car workshop there is space available for more students to work on cars and at the same time motorcycle courses can be running.

This means that we can now run several courses at the same time without causing problems for ourselves.

Fire & Rescue

Our thanks go to everyone who worked towards setting up demonstrations by the Beaconsfield station. The students now have a different outlook where fire is concerned.

Thank you

Thank you for your continued support, if you have not been down to SKIDZ for a while please come and see the changes that are taking place.

We hope you have a good Christmas break and look forward to seeing you soon.
