Infomation For Parents

• Firstly they will learn Health and Safety in the work place as this is a full size, fully equipped workshop with real vehicles.
• They will learn under supervision to carry out basic vehicle maintenance procedures
• They will complete some classroom based modules at the premises too
• SKIDZ will lend them overalls and boots plus other safety equipment when it is needed (goggles, masks, gloves)

What can they achieve at SKIDZ?

• In the Primary Skills Workshop they can gain certificates in Basic Car Maintenance, Health and Safety which can help when going for an interview
• If they enrol on a 2-year Course they can gain a nationally recognised qualification at Entry Level or Level 1 which can help them to move into further education at college, an apprenticeship or into employment.

What else will they learn?

• Personal safety in the work place
• Health and Safety in the work place
• Safe ways to lift
• Safe and legal driving
• Experience of working in an adult-style environment
• They will be treated as an adult by staff so long as they behave in a sensible manner
• Learn to follow instructions
• Learn to work as a member of a team, or as an individual

All of these skills will help them to move on to further education or into the world of work.

Destination of Leavers

Over the past two years SKIDZ  has been tracking the progress of young people after leaving SKIDZ. A number of those who are in employment or on apprenticeships will also be included in the figures for further education as they are spending some part of their week in college to gain further qualifications. The results are as follows:

• Student numbers – in excess of 400 per week attending projects
• 97% success in exam pass rates
• Destination of leavers
