What can I do at SKIDZ?

You can learn to work on cars and motor bikes –

  • Servicing engines
  • Checking brakes
  • Changing wheels
  • Changing and balancing tyres
  • Use of the correct tools

What can I do at SKIDZ?

  • Personal safety in the work place
  • Health and Safety in the work place
  • Safe ways to lift
  • Safe and legal driving

Can I get a qualification?

  • In the Primary Skills Workshop you can gain certificates in Basic Car Maintenance, Health and Safety – you can show these when you go for an interview
  • If you enrol on a 2-year Course you can gain a qualification at Entry Level or Level 1 which can help you to move into further education at college, an apprenticeship or into employment.

What will I do there?

  • SKIDZ will lend you overalls and boots plus other safety equipment when it is needed (goggles, masks, gloves)
  • Instructors will show you around the workshops and explain the need for care with all safety procedures as you will be working in a full size workshop with dangerous liquids, chemicals, etc.
  • You will need to learn some basic Health and Safety before you start to work on cars and bikes.
  • Instructors will show you how to do the work on vehicles.
  • There will be some modules of work if you have signed up for the 2-year course plus an exam at the end of the second year.
  • You may also have an opportunity to ride a quad bike on a track.

What else can I gain from being at SKIDZ?

  • You will gain experience of working in an adult-style environment
  • You will be treated as an adult by staff so long as you behave in a sensible manner
  • You will learn to follow instructions
  • You will learn to work as a member of a team, or as an individual

All of these skills will help you to move on to further education or into the world of work.
