Volunteers needed for SKIDZ Building Project – Can you help?
SKIDZ – The Wycombe Motor Project intends to purchase a building to expand the provision for young people and to reduce expenditure on rented workshops we currently occupy. We need to raise £1million to buy the premises and make necessary modifications. We are looking for a number of volunteers to help with the following roles and are seeking willing volunteers who can offer anything from a couple of hours a week to 2 or 3 days – you will be given information and support to help you get started.
- Grant research to identify sources of funding for building purchase
- Grant research to identify funding to pay a fund-raiser in an ongoing role
- Grant research to identify sources of funding for revenue costs
- Support with submitting grant applications
- Event planning
- Fund-raising activities
- ICT skills including setting up database of supporters
- Marketing skills
- Publicity and publicity material – quarterly newsletters, etc.
If you can help with any of these activities or would like to find out more please contact us on 01494 550008 or e-mail liz@skidz.org.uk. There is information about the SKIDZ Motor Project ion our website www.skidz.org.uk
Explanation of work required
- 1. Grant research to identify sources of funding for building purchase
This requires searching web sites such as Grantfinder, Guidestar, etc., to identify sources of funding. Having found a possible source, follow the directions on the web site to identify criteria for grant support – charity, based in Buckinghamshire, funding projects that work with young people offering education and training, capital grants (does it include building purchase), value of maximum grant, timescale for submitting, application process (i.e. is by application form or letter).
2. Grant research to identify funding to pay a fund-raiser in an ongoing role
This requires searching web sites such as Grantfinder, Guidestar, etc., to identify sources of funding. Having found a possible source, follow the directions on the web site to identify criteria for grant support – charity, based in Buckinghamshire, funding
projects that work with young people offering education and training, revenue grants (does it include salaries) value of maximum grant, timescale for submitting, application process (i.e. is by application form or letter).
3. Grant research to identify sources of funding for revenue costs
This requires searching web sites such as Grantfinder, Guidestar, etc., to identify sources of funding. 4. Support with submitting grant applications
Once a possible funder is identified there is plenty of information available that can be cut and pasted with modifications to suit the type of questions being asked, and to match the application requirements. You will need to have this information forwarded from SKIDZ – contact liz@skidz.org.uk. Once the application is completed it will need to be checked by Steve Godfrey and Liz Hutton for accuracy of facts, etc.
5. Event planning
SKIDZ plans to stage a series of Fundraising Dinners to raise money. A few will be locally based; one or more may be in London. Plans will include researching suitable premises, finding out costs, menu planning, guest speakers, invitation lists, auction items, raffle prizes.
6. Fund-raising activities
Suggestions for alternative sources of fundraising; these should include some local and some wider area events. Plans must include preparation, support in terms of sponsorship, publicity for the event and after, budget and expected profit.
7. ICT skills including setting up database of supporters
SKIDZ requires a database of supporters that is easily accessible and usable. This will include a list of people to send Newsletters to, to send invitations to for various events, etc.
8. Marketing skills
Design ideas to help with publicity of what we do, what we are trying to achieve, and fundraising activities.
9. Publicity and publicity material – quarterly newsletters, etc.
Design ideas for brochures, newsletters, and other material, including website content.
Please note: Whilst this information focuses on Wycombe, other SKIDZ Projects will also welcome your support.
